a group of autoimmune diseases that involve inflammation of small and medium-sized blood vessels. The term ANCA refers to antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies, which are antibodies that attack certain components of white blood cells. AAV is characterized by the presence of these antibodies in the blood, as well as the presence of inflammation in the blood vessels.
