The first European League Against Rheumatism congress took place in 1947. At that time there were 11 members. The congress was held every four years. Each year the EULAR organized a symposium. Because of the increasing number of members (42 countries in 2000) EULAR has organised a conference each year since 2000. There are scientific programs, programs for allied health professionals and for patient organisations (social league, since 1973).
