A structured overview of all studies included in a measurement property review — covering study design, patient populations, instrument versions, settings, and comparator measures. Completed before developing measurement property tables, it provides the context needed to assess whether study findings apply to the OMERACT target population.

The degree to which a study’s design and analysis accurately establish a cause-and-effect relationship between an intervention and an outcome, free from confounding factors or bias.

The extent to which study results can be applied to other populations, settings, or time periods beyond the specific context in which the study was conducted.

The degree to which a measurement actually reflects the concept it is supposed to measure. High validity means results are accurate and trustworthy.

The minimum amount of change in a score or measurement that is considered meaningful — to patients, clinicians, or researchers — and significant enough to influence decisions about care or policy.

A specific, narrowly defined, and measurable component within a broader domain — allowing researchers to measure a precise aspect of a condition rather than a broad, non-specific concept.

A rigorous, pre-specified method for identifying, evaluating, and synthesizing all available research on a specific question — using explicit search strategies, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and critical appraisal to minimize bias.

A substitute measure used in clinical trials in place of a direct patient outcome — such as a lab value used instead of measuring survival or quality of life — chosen because it is thought to correlate with the true outcome.
