Core Outcome Set Uptake (COS Uptake)
the degree to which a Core Outcome Set (COS) is adopted, implemented, and consistently used by researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and other stakeholders within a particular research area or clinical context. High uptake indicates that the COS is widely recognized and applied in study design, reporting, and decision-making, ensuring comparability and relevance of outcomes across trials and settings.
Examples
After OMERACT developed a Core Outcome Set for gout clinical trials, researchers worldwide began including all the recommended outcomes (such as pain, flare frequency, and serum urate levels) in their studies. This broad COS Uptake improved the comparability of results across trials and facilitated regulatory and clinical decision-making.
