« Back to Glossary Index

This is the opposite of ‘specificity’: the extent to which a test gives ‘abnormal’ outcomes in ill people. It is the ability of a test to correctly identify people with the disease. A sensitive test gives only a few ‘false-negative’ outcomes. Sensitivity and specificity are interchangeable within one test by shifting the break off point.
