Cohort Study

an observational research design that follows a defined group of individuals (a “cohort”) over time to examine how exposures, interventions, or characteristics influence outcomes. By observing events as they occur, cohort studies provide valuable information about disease progression, risk factors, long-term effects, and the effectiveness of treatments or preventive measures in real-world settings.

Example
Researchers conduct a cohort study of 5,000 adults with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes. Over 10 years, they track participants’ blood sugar control, medication use, and lifestyle factors to determine which patterns are associated with lower rates of cardiovascular complications.
