Dorcas Beaton is an occupational therapist by background and worked clinically in orthopaedics for many years before returning to school to complete a PhD in clinical epidemiology and specifically in the description and understanding of changes in health outcomes.
Her interest in musculoskeletal health has led her in two main directions – the measurement of health outcomes (like the DASH Outcome Measure which she supports), and the implementation of evidence based knowledge. The latter has evolved into a large program of research that explores the gap in care for osteoporosis after fragility fractures.
Dr Beaton is based in the Musculoskeletal Health and Outcomes Research in the Keenan Research Centre, Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St Michael's Hospital. She is also a senior scientist in measurement at the Institute for Work & Health and is an Associate Professor of in Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy as well as at the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation and the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto.
