Dorcas Beaton is an occupational therapist by background and worked clinically in orthopaedics for many years before returning to school to complete a PhD in clinical epidemiology and specifically in the description and understanding of changes in scores in health outcome instruments.

Her interest in musculoskeletal health has led her in two main directions – advancing the measurement of health outcomes (like the DASH Outcome Measure which she supports), and the implementation of evidence based knowledge in both work and health research and clinical areas such as osteoporotic fragility fractures.

Dr. Beaton is based at the Institute for Work & Health in the Measurement stream of research and is an Associate Professor of in Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy as well as at the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation and the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto.
