Dr. Wells is a Professor of the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He is also a Professor in the Department of Medicine, Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Health Research Institute and Director, Cardiovascular Research Methods Centre at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Dr. Wells received an MSc from McMaster University in mathematical statistics and a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Western Ontario. He taught at the University of Western Ontario for five years as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistical and Actuarial Sciences before joining the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control at Health Canada as the Chief of the Division of Biometrics. In 1991, he moved to the University of Ottawa as the Associate Director of the Clinical Epidemiology Unit of the Loeb Health Research Institute and as an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Wells' interests are in the design and analysis of multicentre clinical trials, statistical methodology related to disease processes and health care delivery, systematic reviews and meta-analysis and the development and assessment of decision support technologies for patients and clinicians.
His research interests are in the design and analysis of clinical trials, statistical methodology related and health care delivery, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, economic evaluations and the development and assessment of decision support technologies for patients and practitioners.
He has been on the executive and steering committees of national and international research programs, external safety and efficacy monitoring committees, scientific grant review committees, editorial committees and scientific advisory committees. He has worked extensively with national and international government and non-government research organizations, as well as private pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
